oh man, carpet is definitely a thing for us too. we almost settled for a place that was carpet everywhere, but i was pretty sad about it. it didn't help that we have friends who recently moved into a rental with carpets and ran the black light over it. ick.

Nah... We're (casually) looking for a new house, too, and I refuse to live anywhere that has carpet in any common areas (living room, entry way, etc.) after replacing our carpet with laminate this January. Everyone has their thing, and it's important to make sure you're happy with the place you're going to be spending most of your time!!

thanks! i was definitely at a breaking point yesterday, but the excitement and joy of preparing of the baby has mostly made all of this feel doable. weird how the idea of this future kid changes so much, isn't it?

no doubt, it's doable. i lived in a place for a couple years without a dishwasher too. but, given how much we cook, and with a baby and my dissertation on the horizon, the dishwasher was a dealbreaker. does that make us totally spoiled?

Yay! I know everyone has their priorities on what they want in a house, but I will say that I lived in an apartment for 6 years without a dishwasher and it wasn't that bad. BUT... that's awesome they're putting one in!! :D

Wow! I started reading you a while back, through Syd there, but then didn't read for a while... anyway. Late congrats on the baby! We're due in mid-July and just can't wait! Although, you seem like you're way ahead of us in getting ready. We weren't planning on the baby shower till mid May and the hospital tour/birthing classes maybe late May. Hmmm...

no, you are right. the silver lining of it is that it'll be more socially acceptable to dress her in whatever the hell we want. not that i need social acceptance, but no need to make the kid hate us for dressing it up funny in its formative years.

That would be cool, but without getting too deep I think society has a lot of work to do with how it treats women as second-class citizens before that could happen. I mean, blue is the "boy" color but it's not seen as silly or odd when girls wear it. The way that so many things associated with girls or women are thought of as insulting when applied to men says a lot about how women are still undervalued and disrespected in general. Which makes me sad. And stabby.

Thanks! I feel bad for pink and how genderizing has ruined it for so many people. Maybe there should be a reclamation movement. Preferably not started by J(rew or some other preppy name brand.
